  1. Mr Anderson

    Hi Ashley,

Thank you for your excellent service, everyone at your office has been extremely helpful and we are very pleased with the stove, it’s doing superb job. The only gripe I have is with the courier, I appreciate that it is beyond your control, but I do feel that they could have been a little more helpful when they delivered the stove. In all though, I am very pleased – thank you.

    Brian Anderson.

  2. Jacko

    Good heat output,great looks.
Unable to have chimney swept through the appliance.
can only be swept from the roof!
A baffle inside the fire is welded, and will not allow brushes to get in to flue.
Expensive way to conform with regs as regards to yearly chimney sweep.

A NOTE FROM MODERN STOVES WITH REGARDS TO THIS FEEDBACK: It is common in modern stoves, (and we don’t just mean stoves that are sold by “Modern Stoves”), for stoves to have a fixed baffle plate, in order comply with European Low Emission standards. Essentially most clean burn stoves, such as the ones that we sell. have 2 x baffle plates in the top of the combustion chamber, in order to force any un-burnt gasses back down in to the combustion chamber for a second burn. This is why our stoves burn very little fuel and produce a lot of heat. They also burn all the fuel to a very fine ash, meaning that the ash pan doesn’t require emptying too often.

Because many stoves now have a fixed baffle plate, UK legislation and building control now states that you must have an access door in the first length of flue pipe, so that you can remove the access plate and gain access to the chimney for cleaning. We therefore always advise customers to have an access door in their flue pipe, and when we supply the flue pipe we specify the first length with access door. The access door is a small plate that can be easily un-screwed when the chimney requires cleaning.

It is also legislation that stoves must be installed by a HETAS engineer, or signed off by a local building control officer. Whoever installed, or signed off the installation should have advised “Jacko” that the first length of flue pipe should include an access door. Please note that Modern Stoves are a HETAS certified installer and retailer, we design, supply and install flue pipe and chimney systems, from small to large. We also provide “FREE” chimney design service, so that our customers can ensure that they buy and install the correct type of chimney system, which will comply with both UK legislation / law (Building control Part J), and HETAS approval requirements.

We have had this stove for 2 years now with no real problems.
The vermiculite has worn at the back which you would expect.
It is in constant use from October to April and heats up very large room quickly if the vents are open.
We also ordered a flue system which modern stoves recommend which works well.
Great value for money. Can send a picture of it installed and running if required.
