Fitted this stove nearly 2 weeks now and am very impressed with the stoves performance. It’s very efficient and heats my kitchen radiators magnificently on only a few logs and pieces of old floorboard. Great stove, great value, impressive customer service.
Joe –
I had fancied a stove for many years and recently decided to explore buying one. The choice of wood burning stoves that are on the market is vast and initially I was more than confused by all the different styles, options and types of stoves that are on the market. I liked the look of the stoves that Modern Stoves offered, and spoke to them several times. Despite looking at countless others I kept finding myself back at Modern Stoves, and I can’t speak too highly with regards to how professional and helpful they were. On their advice I decided to buy the istove lux with back boiler and it was fitted and commissioned in January 2013.
I have been delighted with the stove it lights very easily and hardly burns any logs, in fact I am surprised at how little it burns, as I was expecting it burn considerably more than it does. The glass does blacken up when I first light it, which initially concerned me, but with some trial and error I’ve found that if I open the top vent for a few minutes it’s self cleans. I’ve got 7 radiators and 2 towel rails and it heats them beautifully. In the sense that this is a review, I’d like to say something critical about the stove, but it absolutely does what it is meant to do. So “critically” I am very pleased with my purchase.
Regards
Joe.
Max Boyce the self builder –
I have used wood stoves all my life. I am 50 and my wife alledges I’m not only permanently grumpy but I’ve also perfected my ability to be cynical about everything – Relative to me Jack Dee is a cheerful optimist.
I’ve used the Stove for 6 months – so not used in winter yet – however I in my opinion :
excellent practical and simple design, definitely excellent value.
door mechanism with large handle user friendly and safer than many traditional stoves (side opening means far less likely that a burning log can fall out on to operator than with centrally opening double doors with little knob)
one pane of glass makes for efficient cleaning – can easily take the door off to take outside and clean.
large door makes loading the fire a doddle especially with large logs.
2 simple vents
Small ash tray and grid are light and therefore all family members can clean the fire out – what a bonus !
I inadvertantly tested the fire glove by leaving it in the ash tray and found it when i emptied the ash out. It passed the test thank goodness or the whole of the village would have been mocking me for months !

Max again –
The service before during and months after the purchase is consistently unbelievably good. Advise given on air bricks regarding CO poisoning and completion certificates, connecting flues to pumice linersin limited hieght, suitability of back boiler connected up to a thermostore for running hot water, underfloor heating and upstairs readiators etc. and putting me in touch with Clever Trevor at Copper cylinders who made the thermostore. It all works spot on – So thanks for all the professional and efficent help (and for consistently going above and beyond the call of duty !!) AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE dealing with both Ashley and Nicky.
Finally they were happy to take back flu fittings suplus to requirement nearly a year after I bought them
See I can be positive !! – It hurt though !
PS there is one critism – the review box is tooooo small !
Burch (Mr) –
I bought this stove in October 2013 and it’s been the best stove I’ve ever had. I had a Rayburn before and it burnt through much more fuel than this stove and didn’t give any where as much heat or hot water. The fire grate has lasted, unlike the Rayburn and it’s easy to control and use. It is been a smashing stove.

I purchased this stove in October 2015, we are absolutely delighted with it… smiling from ear to ear. Thank you very much the stove does exactly what we wanted it to and heats our radiators and house to perfection. I have recommended you to many friends and family. Chuffed to bits – thank you.

I’ve run this stove for two winters in the Pyrenees, 7 rads, 1 towel rail and a 320litre hot water tank. Its been brilliant, very efficient in wood use. Using the “norwegian wood” method of top down firing (logs first then kindling on top) the glass door stays clean now.

The I stove is brilliant,
The pump station was a waste of money and fitting a standard pump
would have saved me a fortune.
Modern Stoves reply:
We apologise that you have had issues with the Pump Station, we have been selling the pump station for many years without any issues. We often supply it to customers who are struggling to provide enough hot water to their radiators, essentially the pump station will increase the efficiency of the appliance by approximately 20-25%.
We appreciate that you feel that the pump station was a waste of money, but without it, the stove would have to work a lot harder to heat the water. It is likely that you would only witness this if you exchanged the pump station for a standard circulation pump.
