Description

TAS Safety Valve – Thermostatic Protection for Back Boiler Stoves

The Valve is an essential thermostatic valve designed for use with multi-fuel back boiler stoves equipped with a cooling coil or heat exchanger. Engineered for both un-vented and vented hot water systems, the TAS Safety Valve protects your heating system by automatically controlling the flow of cold water through the cooling coil, reducing the risk of overheating and excessive pressure.

How the TAS Safety Valve Works

The Valve is fitted in-line on a mains cold water feed to the cooling coil within your stove’s back boiler. It features a temperature sensor connected by a 1300mm thermocouple cable, which should be attached to the back boiler or flow pipework. When the water temperature in the back boiler reaches 97°C, the TAS Safety Valve opens automatically, flushing cold water through the cooling coil. This process safely absorbs excess heat and discharges the water to an outside drain, preventing dangerous pressure build-up.

No electrical connection is required, making it ideal for use with uncontrollable heat sources like multi-fuel stoves. It is suitable for closed hot water heating systems up to 93kW and operates at a maximum pressure of 10 bar.

Key Features of the TAS Safety Valve

Thermostatic Protection: Automatically opens at 97°C to prevent overheating.
Solid Brass Housing: Durable and resistant to high temperatures (up to 125°C).
No Plastic Parts: All-metal construction for safety and longevity.
Easy Installation: 3/4″ pipe connection; fits within 1 metre of the stove.
Long Thermocouple Cable: 1300mm sensor cable for flexible installation.
No Electrical Supply Needed: Fully mechanical operation.
Compatible with Back Boiler Stoves: Works with both un-vented and vented hot water systems.

Installation & Safety Advice

When installing the TAS Safety Valve, always use brass compression fittings (never solder joints within 3 metres of a stove). Fit at least one expansion vessel (min 25 litres) and two safety blow-off valves to every closed loop. For more information on safe installation, see the latest hot water safety regulations on GOV.UK and HETAS installation guidance.
