Description

The Condor “Back Boiler” Multi-Fuel, Wood Burning Range Stove Oven

Eco Design 2022 Compliant

The Condor Back Boiler is an impressive multi fuel, wood burning Range Cooker / Oven with a built in back boiler for heating central heating and domestic hot water.  Hand built to a very high standard and finished in black with polished silver handles.

The Condor has a large firebox incorporates both primary and secondary air controls in order to optimize control and management of both the burning rate and the temperature.  An advanced convection system (air wash) draws air in through the bottom, which then passes around the combustion chamber, this also ensures clean burning and helps to keep the ceramic glass windows clear. The combustion chamber includes a multi fuel grate to allow use of wood or solid fuels and to allow for easy lighting. The firebox measures almost half a meter in depth (470mm) and 280mm tall, it will therefore take very large / long logs if required.

The Condor is Eco Design 2022 Compliant, in recent tests stoves that are Eco Design 2022 Compliant burnt 6 times less fuel than traditional non compliant stoves.

The Oven incorporates a middle shelf and temperature thermometer which is mounted in the ceramic glass door. The temperature of the oven can be effectively managed by a control lever which regulates how much heat is held around the outer wall of the oven; opening the lever allows the heat to escape whereas closing the lever holds the heat around the oven. The top surface of the Condor back boiler also incorporates a large hot plate for kettle / pans etc etc.

The back boiler is rated to a maximum operational pressure of 2 bar, meaning that it can be used on a vented or un-vented hot water system. The back boiler has 2 water connections, 1 x flow and 1 x return ports that are located on the rear of the stove. Please see the attached drawing for the exact locations and dimensions of the connections. The connections are 1 inch male BSP, which can be concerted to 28mm  or 22mm using connection irons that are available from most reputable plumber merchants. Plumbing schematics are available by email on request.

The Condor range stove oven is a fantastic product that offers cooking, hot water and room heating in one functional range cooker.

We also sell another back boiler version of the Condor that incorporates 4 x water connections and an internal safety cooling coil, this product is ideally suited to use on un-vented systems or where the domestic hot water circuits are entirely separate from the central heating circuit.

Hi Ashley, Just finished the installation of the stove oven and we’ve had our first cup of teat off it. just wanted to say how pleased I am, as an engineer by trade and I was impressed by the build quality. Having inspected the boiler I was suprised at just how well it was manufactured and all the welding has defo been done by somebody who knows exactly what they are doing, the stays on the boiler are a sign of the quality of the product. A mate of mine came around to see it working and he said that he’s going to order one as well- I’ve told him to ask for you. Keep up the good work and thanks again for a terrific deal.

Hello, just wanted to say that we’re really please with the oven, it was worth the wait. I don’t mean to be rude but was expecting something less stubstantiaI for the money and it’s not often you get more than you paid for, it’s normally the other way around. Thanks for a great cooker, as you know we are absolutely sick of paying £££ for energy bills, when we’ve got lots of free wood.
We’ve got a friend who was waiting to see ours before they ordered, I am sure that they will be in contact within the next few days to order theirs. Thank you for all your help with putting together the flue pipe design and supplying it on time.
    Mrs Beardsley.

Hi, We are really are pleased with the Condor back boiler. Our previous range stove cost us over £2000 and only lasted 4 years, and I actually think that the Condor is better even though it cost a lot less. It certainly does the job in that it gives off a lot of heat and warms the radiators and cooks our food, which is exactly what we bought it for. In short we are very pleased and we are considering buying another for a friend of ours. Thank you.

Dear Ashley, (I hope this gets to you)

This is a long overdue message.

The Victoria woodburning stove/cooker which we purchased from you has been an outstanding success. It is easy to operate, very responsive, gives of amazing heat, and is a useful cooker (although we have a small gas/electric cooker to supplement it, and use in the summer). We have not been slow to recommend yor business whenever the conversation turns to heating; the prices of gas and oil in France are very high.

We are in the middle of a long cold spell; never above freezing for more than a week and often down to minus ten during the night. We’ve kept very comfortable and our dogs love it!

Thank you for you care and attention.

    All the best

    Hamish.

    Hi there

Stove was fitted and plumbed in yesterday, no dramas because it was replacing a worn out Rayburn. We must say how impressed we are with the Condor, it works an absolute treat and seems much more controllable than the Rayburn. Absolutely delighted!!! Just one small niggle is the paint hasn’t turned up! Grateful if you could send another.

    Hi
I recently purchased one of your Condor 12kw Contemporary Multi-Fuel Range Cooker and i am extremely pleased with it and your service the delivery was very fast got to Ireland within 3 working days the fastest delivery from UK that i have ever received. The stove itself is brilliant it is heating 7 radiators no problem and providing super heat in the kitchen could not recommend it enough and i have told all my friends about it.
    Thank you again.

We’re just back from France where we managed to get the Condor installed and lit. Started off slow and easy as recommended. Day 2 and we were getting warm radiator, warm water and cooking. Bearing in mind the house is still an open plan building site, no doors to any of the rooms, just open plan throughout, by day 3 the fabric of the building was drying out slowly. We’ve had the stove burning every day for a week – even kept it in right through one night – hot showers, hot radiators, hot food, warm house, all in one! Great stove, thank you.

  8. Mark and Colette

    Hi there

The Condor stove that we recently bought from you is without doubt ‘Exceptional’ and during this cold weather has been a real boon. We have managed to keep the fire just ‘ticking over’ at night and its so easy to get a good fire back in the morning. However, I was wondering if you could supply us with another ash pan for ease of continuous burn and emptying of the ash pan? (we like to let the ash cool before emptying). If so could you give us an idea of price and availability?

    Once again, many thanks

I am truly impressed with this stove . It replaced an oil fired Aga which I just couldnt afford to run. I cant believe I’m saying this….. but its better than the Aga! Not only did it cost less but it keeps the kitchen and the rest of the house warm, lots of hot water and when you open the oven door it doesnt loose all its heat and take an age to come back up to temperature. It cooks a roast to perfection and will simmer a bolognese. I love this stove and highly recommend it.

ADDITIONAL NOTE FROM MODERN STOVES..the above may read as though we have written this. Like all our feedback this is 100% genuine, un-edited feedback, we don’t even know who left the feedback, other than somebody who likes to hug trees… from Scotland..!

  10. Mr B Hobbs

Just to let you know our new cooker was installed on friday and is working well.
The heat output is far better than the rayburn Nouvelle, it is more responsive and its running 5 radiators and a 42×18 hot water cylinder at present with a good heat output.
As far as consumption rate of logs go, its about the same as the Rayburn but the heat output in the kitchen is a lot better.
All in all for the price its very good.

I would rate it as 4.5 stars out of 5 and very good value for money.

Not yet had the log burner with back boiler fitted as the old one is still in place and i have got to rebuild the fireplace with cornish stone to accommodate the new fire, thats a job for when the weather warms up as we are still using the old fire.

If you have any enquiries from people in Cornwall who want to see one of these stoves working they are quiet welcome to come and see this one.

    Mr B Hobbs.

  11. Mark & Colette

Our ordered spare ash pan turned up the other day, the reasoning is this; during periods of cold weather it’s really nice to keep the stove lit overnight which is possible if you stoke it up and close down the air vents but leave the top fire box one open just a tad. We also have an ash carrier so when the pan is full, put the empty one in the stove, wait for the full one to cool before emptying and job done!! I urge you all to buy another spare pan and not expensive.

The Condor is a great stove, all of you considering an aga or rayburn, think very carefully before parting with your hard earned cash.

    Hi

Thought you might like a review of the Condor Range with Back boiler that we have just plumbed in for your website. It is a fantastic stove not only great to look at but is very easily running 6 radiators and hot water. It burns really well and draws amazingly plus is easy to control. Having the cooker makes it so much more useful. Great value for money do not hesitate to buy if you want central heating, hot water and a cooker.

I am very pleased and the service was great, very friendly and helpful staff. Plus the Flue was the best price anywhere!

    Many thanks

  14. Pat

I have had this stove for 14 month and yes it is a great wood burning stove plenty of heat and hot water and I have done a lot of cooking on it BUT I would suggest the doors open fully as taking very hot heavy cassaroll dishes out if not careful you can tough the door with your arm resulting in a burn ( or am I just clumsy ) All in all great value for money and the service was second to none as they say you get what you pay for but in this case a little more

  15. antique crofter

We wanted to thank you for the excellent service we received before we ordered the stove/cooker. All our questions, and there were many, were answered without any problem or hassle. We are also very pleased with the stove which is now installed and working very well, can’t wait for the winter to really fire it up!

  16. Luke

Very pleased with the new Condor back boiler stove oven. Heats our seven radiators with ease with just a small amount of coal or a couple of logs, for around 8 hours. Family and friends starting to complain of house being too hot! Starting to use it for cooking, and surprised at how effective it is.
Also, very pleased with new valiant boiler they supplied and fitted, very competitive price. Very competent and helpful fitters throughout.

    Very satisfied customers

I’ve had this stove for over 12 months now, and found it to be a reliable well made product. Originally I looked at buying a Rayburn but the cost was just so expensive, and I kepy finding my self going back to the Condor. But despite assurances from Modern Stoves I was worried about the quality so I traveled to Manchester to see it at their warehouse. I must say that on seeing it I was immediately impressed and Modern Stoves seemed to have a lot of knowledge and experience of its operation.
Although I was initially concerned that he Condor wouldn’t be up to the job, I pleased to say that it heats all my radiators with ease (9 radiators, 2 of them are very large). Good points are that is is easy to light, and the large fire box means that you can load it up with fuel and leave it alone to burn.
Bad points.. my wife marked the top when we first bought the stove and we haven’t managed to get the mark off, however Modern Stoves have said that it can easily be re-painted with some high temperature paint that they have, bit we decided to put up with the mark for the time being. l also think the stove should have come with a separate handle on the ash pan so that you can remove it when it is hot, but I’ve made something myself so that I can grab the hot ash pan, but a tool with the stove would have been handy.

  18. Gustavo

It heats up evenly and stays hot. I hope this helps. I found the other reviews for his product to be very accurate.

  19. Don Charles

    Hi Nicky,

We finally got the stove installed last weekend and if I were to write a review it would go as follows –
The Condor range stove is a good looking cheap alternative to other much more expensive models. Unfortunately that’s where the good news ends. We lit the fire and it started and burnt well. As we opened the door to load in more wood a few minutes later, the sealing rope remained stuck to the stove front which left us in the position of a hot fire with no seal on the door and trying to push same back into the groove on the open door. We got the sealing rope back on in some fashion and next day I re – stuck it back onto the door. We then lit the stove again which started well.

I’m sorry to have to say all of the above, but do intend to publish this review to warn others. Your service to us has been great – it’s sad about this product.

    Don Charles.

    REPLY FROM MODERN STOVES:-
Dear Mr Charles, we apologise for the issue, however the results are due to misuse during the first lighting of the appliance. When a customer purchases a stove from us, we send an email to the customer that recommends the door should not be latched shut during the first lighting of the appliance. This is because the paint finish begins to cure during the first fire and the paint will become soft and tacky during the first fire. Due to the paint becoming tacky there is a risk that the rope seal will stick to the painted surface of the body of the appliance and when the door is opened it can pull the rope seal away from door. If this occurs we ask our customers to contact us so that we can provide some high temperature adhesive (FREE OF CHARGE) in order to re affix the rope seal. If the rope seal is not re-affixed then it will become damaged and this will effect the operation of the appliance. Here follows a copy of the email that we send to all customers who place an order:-

We would advise that you make the first fire small, in order to allow the stove and paint finish to adapt to the heat. During the first fire the paint finish will be vulnerable to damage whilst it cures, and the rope seal on the stove door may also stick to the body of the stove if the door is locked shut, therefore we would recommend that you leave the door slightly ajar for the first fire or if this is not possible please open and close the door at least every 15-20 mins. Please be mindful that hot embers may spit from the wood! Essentially the materials of the stove need time to adapt to the effects of the heat.

Please note that during both the first and second lighting of the stove, it is perfectly normal for the stove to give a smoke vapour, there will also be a strong smell of burning paint in the room, this is perfectly normal, but may cause some discomfort if you do not ventilate the room, we therefore strongly recommend that you open at least one window. It is also normal that that you will see a haze in the room, this is caused by the effects of the paint finish heating up, after the second fire this will stop.

It is quite normal for the glass on your stove to become and remain black during the first few small fires you have. This is down to the curing of the paint and also because the fire is not reaching capacity owing to small fires. Please do not worry about this, once you are ready to have your first substantial fire, any black stuck to the door will burn away and the glass will then remain clean burning during subsequent fires.
